In order for an organisation to like Felix Lodge 1494 to prosper it must adapt and change in some ways, whilst cherishing and preserving its history and traditions. The trick is knowing what to change and when to change it, as well as understanding what is worth preserving.
Yesterday, at the 574th meeting of the Lodge, the members decided to embark on a new journey to adapt and change, using modern techniques, to promote an old masonic lodge that is positively dripping with tradition and history. Hence this first blog spot in the News & Comment section of the newly created website for the Lodge. Too many masonic lodges close and disappear as they fail to realise, or even worse realise too late, that their numbers are decreasing and they feel they can do nothing to stop the decline. Put in very simple terms, our Lodge has survived for over 140 years, through two world wars, economic hardships and depressions and is still alive and kicking but it is time to promote this fine institution and appeal to the next custodians of our organisation, so that the work and effort of our founders and past members is preserved as the lodge continues. So with guidance for the excellent Middlesex Provincial Team our members were informed of how new technology, in particular Social Media, appeals to the next generation of Freemasons and how successful it has been when adopted by other Lodges faced with the challenges we now face. We thank the team for their positive presentation and its underlying message of hope. Work has begun, emails have been exchanged and ideas are being formulated as we take the first step towards what we hope will be the next 140 year chapter in the Felix Lodge 1494 history. Thank you if you have taken the time to read this post. We hope to bring you more news from the Lodge and updates on our progress towards increasing our membership. If you are interested in Freemasonry and are based in the general vicinity of Twickenham please email our secretary by clicking here and he will get in touch and answer any questions you may have so that you may become part of this historic Lodge. Please visit regularly for more news and updates.
